Receding gums are a major reason for dental problems. They expose the roots of teeth that make teeth shaky and prone to infections and decay, eventually causing loss of teeth. They are mainly caused by bacterial infections, aging and certain medications. They can be taken care of using home remedies like tea tree oil.

Natural way to restore receding gums
Simple natural remedies like tea tree oil and sea salt mouthwash can take care of this problem. In some cases, however, surgery may be necessary to restore the gums to better condition.

Tea tree oil: Every morning, after you are done with your normal brushing, clean your toothbrush, apply a few drops of tea tree oil and brush again. Once this is done, take some more oil on your finger or on a cotton swab and apply the oil all over the gums. if you are not able to reach the small crevices, you can apply the oil to your floss. You can continue doing this even after the infection has been cured.

Tea tree oil helps kill bacteria and stop them from multiplying which is essentially the first step in treating the condition. It also helps alleviate pain and give relief from over sensitivity of teeth.

You can follow this with a herbal mouthwash made with myrrh tincture in water. Use this water to gargle for at least thirty seconds. This should be done till the gums return to normal.

Vitamin and mineral supplements: You can take supplement that combine vitamins B complex and C along with minerals like zinc, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. This is beneficial as many a times, nutritional deficiencies may also be a cause of this condition.

Diet for receding gums
Along with taking dietary nutrition supplements, you can increase the intake of foods that contain these vitamins and minerals. Other than this, you need to have a balanced and healthy diet to make sure that your immune system is strong enough to fight the bacterial infection and heal your gums.

Causes of receding gums
The main cause of receding gums is bacterial infections that erode gums and cause the gums to recede. Other factors that cause this condition include medications like those taken for diabetes, oral contraceptives, improper fillings, aging as well as smoking and use of tobacco. Poor oral hygiene also plays a part in causing or aggravating this condition.

  1. Hi – you advocate use of tea tree oil directly onto gums. However, isn’t lavender oil the only one which can be used undiluted? This said, i’m still trying it coz i’m so desperate to cure my gum desease and loose teeth. thanks
